Four titles published by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press have been named as finalists in the 16th annual “Foreword Review” Book of the Year Awards. They are:
• “Game Changers: The Rousing Legacy of Louisiana Sports,” by Marty Mule in the Sports category, a collection of descriptive accounts and images documenting Louisiana’s most exciting and historic sporting events and athletes;
• “The History of the Acadians of Louisiana,” by Zachary Richard, and others, in the Regional category, a comprehensive overview of Acadian/Cajun history and culture from the Grand Derangement to the present;
• “Megan’s Guitar and Other Poems from Acadie,” by Darrell Bourque, in the Poetry category, a collection of new poems by the former poet laureate of Louisiana that features principal characters and historical figures of the18th-century deportation of the Acadians; and
• “Soul Exchange: The Paintings of Dennis Paul Williams,” by Dennis PaulWilliams in the Art category, an exploration of the art and life of Williams,who has made a lifelong career painting spirits in their heavenly realm.
In the next two months, a panel of more than 100 librarians and booksellers will determine the winners in over 60 categories. Winners will be announced at the American Library Association annual conference onJune 27, 2014.
“Foreword Reviews” is the only review magazine solely dedicated to reviewing titles by independent and university presses. The complete list of the finalists can be found here:
