UL Lafayette expands online offerings with five new programs

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has expanded its online offerings with five new programs in place for Fall 2025, bringing its total number of online degree and certificate programs to 26.

UL Lafayette’s new programs include a bachelor’s degree in sociology, a bachelor’s degree in business administration in marketing and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sport management. Each of those degrees represent extensions of on-campus programs and feature the same curriculums.

A post-baccalaureate certificate in cancer registry management and a graduate certificate in gifted education are also among the new offerings.

Dr. Jaimie Hebert, the University’s provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, said intentionality, quality and accessibility have been integral in the implementation online programs.

“We recognize the importance of providing flexible learning opportunities for students balancing work, family and other commitments,” Hebert said. “These new programs are designed to align with the Louisiana Prospers initiative and meet the needs of today’s learners, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to advance their careers and achieve their academic goals.”

Louisiana Prospers, the Louisiana Board of Regents’ master plan adopted in 2020, aims to have 60% of Louisiana’s working-age population hold a credential of value beyond high school by 2030.

Dr. Claire Arabie, director of the Office of Distance Learning, said the three new online bachelor’s degrees are ideal for students with college credit who want to complete their degree.

“Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible for students who may have, for whatever reason, been unable to complete their degree,” Arabie said. “We’re excited to support the colleges and departments in creating flexible, affordable pathways.”

Upon completion, the graduate certificate in gifted education provides teachers the opportunity to teach academically gifted students.

The post-baccalaureate certificate in cancer registry management is a program offered through the College of Nursing & Health Sciences.

Dr. Anita Hazelwood, head of the college’s Department of Health Sciences, said the certificate program is the only one of its kind offered by a Louisiana university and is in place to support cancer registry programs nationwide that need qualified staff.

“Cancer registrars support important data collection and analysis that drives research for cancer treatments,” Hazelwood said. “These are meaningful, in-demand roles.”
