Tips for Campus Residents to Prepare for Isaac

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is prepared for all students who live on campus to shelter in place for Tropical Storm Isaac.

The university staff is watching the developments with Isaac around the clock and is keeping the hall staff informed of any changes. It will alert students of any changes in UL Lafayette’s hurricane preparedness plans through email, notices and the monitors located in most residence halls.

The following are tips for occupants of student residences on campus:

• Inform your hall staff/apartment managers of your plans for the storm by signing in at the front desk/apartment office or by completing the following online survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HurricanePreparedne

• Get in touch with family members to discuss your plans and your location.

• Please register your phone/cell phone for the UL Lafayette Emergency Notification System through your student or employee ULink account. By registering your phone/s, you will be kept abreast on University closures, emergencies, and other pertinent information.

• For emergency information on campus, dial 2-2222 or off campus (337) 482-2222.

• If you have any special needs because of health or impairments, please let your hall staff/apartment managers know about them.

• Stock up on water, medications, prescriptions and nonperishable food items.

• Gas up your vehicle and/or arrange transportation in the event of evacuation.

• Make sure bikes are secure either within your room/apartment or somewhere other than outside on the bike racks.

• Remove all belongings from balcony/patio areas.

• Have flashlights ready.

• Keep safety in mind during the storm and please do not have any open flames, such as candles.

• If you leave, unplug electronics – except for refrigerators –  and throw perishable food away.
