Shuttle service between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus and adjacent University Place Apartments is available for students who live at the complex.
Provided by UL Lafayette’s Office of Transportation Services, it is available to and from main campus, Bourgeois Hall, and Cajun Field. Students who wish to use it should call (337) 482-5305 about 15 minutes before they are ready to head to campus.
Shuttle hours are 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Thursday, and noon to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.
Students are picked up in the University Place Apartments parking lot, at the intersection of Lepont Street and Whittington Drive.
University officials encourage students to use the shuttle. A bridge on UPA Drive that connects to Oak Crest Drive has been closed to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. The complex is located at 200 Oak Crest Drive.
City/parish officials have inspected the bridge, and determined it is structurally unsound, said Joey Pons, the University’s associate director of public safety.
“There are physical barriers in place that are necessary for public safety, and we want to encourage the campus community to heed these barriers, and to utilize the shuttle service,” Pons said.
The bridge is owned by Lafayette Consolidated Government.
The Office of Transportation Services sent an email earlier this week to notify students of the bridge closure, and to remind them about the shuttle service.
