Members of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Government Association and the UL Lafayette Alumni Association recently delivered a check of more than $1,000 to the United Way of Acadiana for its hurricane relief fund.
Monetary donations and school supplies were collected on Sept. 8 from students, faculty and staff members as well as members of the community. More than 30 boxes of notebooks, pencils, folders, ink pens, rulers, school bags, crayons, markers and other supplies were delivered to the Lafayette Parish School Board for students displaced by the recent hurricanes.
In addition to collecting school supplies, donations were received for the United Way and the Red Cross foundations. The students raised more than $2,000 to go towards the two organizations’ Katrina relief funds.
