Gov. John Bel Edwards will mark the start of a special legislative session with an address Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Edwards will deliver his “Our Louisiana” speech at 1 p.m. at the historic Earl K. Long Gymnasium, 500 E. St. Mary Blvd.
The special legislative session begins Tuesday to address fiscal challenges Louisiana faces. It is the second special session this year.
Governors typically address legislators in person when sessions begin. Since taking office in January 2016, Edwards has given eight joint addresses to members of the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate, according to media reports.
Tuesday’s event at UL Lafayette will replace the customary joint session address.
At the University, the governor will be joined by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, state legislators, local elected officials, and members of the health care, law enforcement and higher education communities.
The public may attend and is encouraged to RSVP at gov.louisiana.gov/ourlouisiana.
No posters and banners will be permitted at the event.
Free parking is available in the Zone 15 overflow lot at the corner of East St. Mary Boulevard and Girard Park Circle. The lot is adjacent to Earl K. Long Gym. Doors will open at noon.
