Kimberly Newville, a junior majoring in nursing, will reign as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s 2012 Homecoming queen.
Maids on the Homecoming Court are Dobrielle Gatlin, Victoria Lane, Courtney LeBlanc and Ashley Mudd. Nominees for the court are submitted by UL Lafayette student organizations. Senior Ragin’ Cajun football players choose the court after nominees have been interviewed.
The Homecoming Court will be featured on a float in the annual Homecoming Parade that begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. Later that day, its members will be presented on the football field during halftime of the Homecoming game. Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns will battle the Tulane Green Wave at Cajun Field. The game begins at 4 p.m.
Newville was nominated for the Homecoming Court by Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. She is a member of Phi Mu and was voted the outstanding member of her pledge class. She was also was nominated for UL Lafayette’s Outstanding Sophomore award.
Newville has served as a member of the Student Orientation Staff. She represents the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions on the Student Government Association and serves on the Student Appeals Court and on the University Program Council.
She is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanit. Other volunteer activities include participating in the Relay for Life and assisting with Special Olympics.
Newville holds a 3.4 GPA. She plans to attend Graduate School at UL Lafayette to obtain a master’s degree in nursing and to ultimately become a nurse practitioner.
She is the daughter of Bethany and Randy Newville of Lafayette, La.
Dobrielle Gatlin was nominated for the Homecoming Court by the University Program Council. A sophomore majoring in mass communications–broadcasting, she holds a 3.4 GPA. She was asked to join Alpha Lambda National Honor Society and was awarded an SGA scholarship for two semesters.
Her university activities include serving as a Soul Camp student mentor and a member of the University Program Council.
Gatlin is in the process of forming the Black Women Leadership Association and has participated in the New Vessels Ministries Youth Camp and a Church of God in Christ Summer Camp.
She is the daughter of Danyelle and Reynard Scroggins of Gloster, La., and Dwight and Quantina Gatlin of Logansport, La.
Victoria Lane was nominated for the Homecoming Court by Phi Kappa Theta. A junior majoring in marketing, she has a 3.4 GPA.
Lane is co-captain of UL Lafayette’s Ragin’ Jazz dance team. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society and participates in the Games of Acadiana and in the Acadiana Down Syndrome Association’s Buddy Walk every year.
Lane was chosen to represent UL Lafayette in the Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit National College Football Competition. Also, she was invited to represent UL Lafayette’s Spirit Program at UL Lafayette football recruitment meetings.
She is the daughter of Ashley and Wendy Lane of Lafayette, La.
Courtney LeBlanc was nominated by Spicy Cajun Micreaux to serve on the Homecoming Court. A senior majoring in exercise science, she has a 3.2 GPA and plans to attend physical therapy school.
LeBlanc is a member of Phi Mu, Rho Lambda Greek Honor Society, Order of Omega Honor Society and the Kinesiology Professional Association. She has been a Soul Camp student mentor and represents the College of Education as a member of the Student Government Association.
Her university activities include a mission trip to serve the poor in Costa Rica that was conducted by Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church.
LeBlanc is the daughter of Madeline and Wayne Leblanc of Lafayette, La.
Ashley Mudd, a senior majoring in sociology, has a 3.9 GPA. She was nominated for the Homecoming Court by the Student Government Association.
She is president of SGA and a member of Phi Mu, which named her the New Greek Woman of the Year in 2011. Mudd served on the Student Orientation Staff, was a SOUL Camp student mentor and is a member of Blue Key Honor Society and the Student Leadership Council.
She coordinated a St. Jude Children’s Hospital fundraiser that collected over $20,000 and a male beauty pageant for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital that raised more than $10,000.
Mudd is the daughter of Joseph and Annette Mudd of Abbeville, La., and Suzette O’Connor.
