One former player invited to mini-camp
UPDATE 5/2/13: Two more players earn invites to mini-camps http://www.ragincajuns.com/news/2013/5/2/FB_0502133214.aspx
Several former Ragin’ Cajuns have reached agreements as undrafted free agents to join NFL teams.
Five former football players signed contracts with NFL teams within hours of the end of the NFL draft on Saturday. They were: kicker Brett Baer (St. Louis Rams); lineman Cordian Hagans (Pittsburgh Steelers); wide receiver Javone Lawson (Arizona Cardinals); defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu (Miami Dolphins) and defensive back Melvin White (Carolina Panthers).
Wide receiver Harry Peoples will visit the Chicago Bears this weekend, although he has yet to sign a free agent contract.
The players, who were all seniors, helped the Ragin’ Cajuns achieve back-to-back 9-4 seasons and victories in the New Orleans Bowl.
“I’m very excited for each one of our NFL signees,” Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. “They have worked very hard and are very deserving of these opportunities.
“I am even prouder that each of these players has already graduated or is on course to graduate, leaving here with two bowl championships and now an opportunity in an NFL camp.”
