Financial aid programs earn high national rank

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is among the top seven public universities in the nation for access to financial aid programs that students don’t have to repay after they graduate.

That’s according to the “50 Colleges with the Best Financial Aid” list compiled by bestcolleges.com, an online resource for prospective college students.

The University was seventh on the list, which includes four-year colleges and universities with enrollments of 10,000 or more students.

The rankings are based on the availability of state and federal grant programs for students with annual family incomes of less than $48,000.

Each school included on the list participates in the Title IV federal financial aid program. Title IV programs include tuition assistance such as Pell Grants and federal work study programs.

“This ranking is a strong indicator of the University's commitment to meeting the financial needs of prospective students,” said Andy Benoit, the University’s director of undergraduate admissions and recruitment.

The other three universities in Louisiana on the list were LSU, which was 20th, Louisiana Tech University, which was 24th, and Southeastern Louisiana University, which was 45th.

The University of Texas-Pan American was first among the “50 Colleges with the Best Financial Aid.” California State University-Dominguez Hills was next, followed by the University of North Texas, California State University-Los Angeles, and CUNY Lehman College.
