A “Tintamarre,” or a procession of marchers wearing costumes and masks, will wind its way through the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus on Friday, Oct. 9.
Several campus streets will be closed to traffic starting at 4 p.m., when regular shuttle service from Rex Street near the Conference Center to Cajun Field will end for the day.
The procession will leave around 4:30 p.m., from the Ragin’ Cajuns Store parking lot on the corner of Johnston and Lewis streets. It will travel down Lewis Street, then turn left onto Rex Street, right onto St. Mary Boulevard, and right onto Girard Park Drive. It will end at the Festivals Acadiens concert stage in Girard Park.
Students who need shuttle service after 4 p.m. should call the Office of Transportation Services at (337) 482-5305 about 15 minutes before they are ready to leave campus.
The procession is being held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Acadians’ arrival in southwest Louisiana.
