Dupré Library at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will celebrate Black History month with an exhibit throughout February and a program on Feb. 13.
This year’s theme “From Our Hands: Labor, Legacy and Success,” is carried out in an exhibit that focuses on contributions of African-Americans in creative arts and crafts. The exhibit features the work of Lafayette photographer Lennie White and Baton Rouge toothpick sculptor Michael Smith. Other local artists will also display their crafts. The exhibit will run Feb. 1 - 29.
The Black History month program will take place Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. on the library’s first floor. Local entrepreneur Ronald J. Babineaux will be the guest speaker. African-American artists will discuss how they learned their arts and how they are passing on their knowledge to the next generation.
The program will also include music and dance presented by African-American, African and Caribbean students from UL Lafayette.
The public is invited to view the exhibit and attend the program. For more information, contact Sherry Broussard, special projects librarian and coordinator of the Black History month presentations at 482-6677.
