The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns made history by thrashing the then No. 23-ranked Iowa State Cyclones 31-14 on Saturday.
The victory gives Louisiana its first national ranking since Nov. 1, 1943. The Ragin’ Cajuns are No. 19 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll and No. 21 in the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll.
The win is the football team’s first over a ranked team while playing on the road, and the second-ever over a ranked team. Louisiana beat the No. 25-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Sept. 14, 1996 at Cajun Field.
Louisiana will open Sun Belt Conference play against the Georgia State Panthers at 11 a.m. CDT in Atlanta. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
The Ragin' Cajuns' home opener against Georgia Southern is at 11 a.m. Sept. 26. Changes to the game day experience at Cajun Field include capping the number of fans at 25 percent of the stadium's maximum capacity. No tailgating is allowed.
